The legend of Psycho Gypsy starts at the dawn of the new music revolution when
hard rock was wiped clean from the mainstream and the FM world was looking at grunge for commercial success. Psycho Gypsy
founders Timm Tantrum and Eddie Electra were true to form rock stars and wouldn’t budge an inch. If radio wouldn’t
pay attention, it didn’t matter - you cant stop rock and roll.
In 1989, when artists like Motley Crue and LA Guns were maintaining the last footholds
in the rock market, Tantrum and Electra worked together in an original rock act under the name Widow. With just regional success
and the change of the times, the band was short lived and members looked to other projects to fulfill their youthful musical
attitude. For Tantrum and Electra, that road circled back to the original tunes and the original jam room that produced the
original work in Widow. They decided to step it up and give it a better shot.
Not looking to recreate Widow, the boys moved into a more aggressive direction
and with new music they formed Psycho Gypsy. This time it took hold on the public. The duo added like minded members that
revolved and cycled until they formed the key line-up of Johnny Steinman on drums and Mike Randolph on guitar. With a new
lease on the rock and roll lifestyle, the band toured the Western American Market, performing on stages throughout Las Vegas,
the Southland of California and in an instant, the band became a feature on the Sunset Strip; the launching pad of the hard
rock style that Psycho Gypsy was born to represent.
During the next decade, Psycho Gypsy would be seen performing with major label
acts including Poison, LA Guns, Great White, Ratt, Enuff Z’Nuff, The Zeros, Tuff and Pretty Boy Floyd. Legendary Hollywood
nightspots including the Coconut Teaszer, The Whiskey and The Roxy would try out rock acts like Revlon Red, Foxy Roxx, Guttersluts,
Spiders & Snakes and The Peppermint Creeps as opening acts for Psycho Gypsy. Scoring write-ups in every major rock magazine
and earning screen credibility on the large amount of new rock websites that sprung up to celebrate the new online digital
technologies, Psycho Gypsy was making a mark on the new generation of rock fans much the same way Motley Crue created their
whirlwind of attention a decade earlier. In a world where labels failed to see the potential of hard rock’s reverence,
Psycho Gypsy kept the torch lit for a generation of MTV bred and born hard rock faithful.
The ride was tremendous, but by 2000, it came to a halt. The members divided into
new musical directions and the band split up.
In 2006 long time drummer Mykel Geyman passed away in a tragic motorcycle accident.
This prompted Eddie and Timm to give it another go. By 2007 the band was back on the road among others playing towns like
Denver Co, Their hometown of Phoenix Az and of coarse Hollywood. in 2013 Psycho Gypsy re released it's popular debut album
with 4 additional tracks. two studio tracks and two live tracks on the label All HardRock http://www.allhardrock.com/artists/profile/psycho-gypsy. No one knows what the future of Psycho Gypsy holds but there's never any doubt that
whatever it is it'll be fun to watch.
